Description | The Gender Studies Programme (GSP) offers courses that unpack inequalities and power relations that must be discussed and addressed for a just and equal society. The GSP was officially launched during the 1994/1995 academic session, under the Dean’s Office of the Faculty of Arts and Social Sciences. It is inter and trans-disciplinary in approach and offers a range of courses from theory to methodology dealing with the family, economics, politics, peace and conflict, law, and religion. Gender Studies as a teaching discipline is novel in Malaysia because it requires academics and students to deconstruct discriminatory values and practices. The program nurtures students to be sensitive toward gender issues to generate new insights into all aspects of social, economic, and political life. With this exposure, students are able to apply the gender perspective in understanding gender-related issues. The GSP aims to train gender-sensitive students who can apply their training when they enter the job market and are expected to have more critically informed perspectives on gender relations and gender roles in society |
