| Description | Nutritional Science is an interdisciplinary field that encompasses biology, human behavior, physical activity, psychology, food analysis, mathematics, and health. Students who pursue this program will obtain a Bachelor of Health Science (Nutrition) with Honors from the Faculty of Health Sciences within a 4-year study period. Students will learn the fundamentals of nutritional science; food manufacturing, processing, and preservation; types of food nutrients obtained from various types of food; factors influencing food choices and eating habits; the metabolic effects of food intake on health; and policies and regulatory monitoring bodies regarding nutrition and health. Officers and professionals from the private sector, government, and NGOs (e.g., Ministry of Health, NADMA, CDERT, UNICEF) will be invited to share their experiences with students and prepare graduates for the professional nutrition job market. Nutritional Science graduates can hold positions as nutritionists, and this profession is under the Allied Health Professions Act 2016 (Act 774) to ensure that health practitioners are regulated within the prescribed scope of practice. Nutritionists are in high demand due to the increasing trend in the health sector and efforts to reduce the rising problems of overweight, obesity, and chronic diseases in the country. |
