Description | Optometry is a field that involves the examination and management of vision problems and eye diseases to restore visual function and maintain 1 eye health. The Optometry and Vision Science Program, Faculty of Health Sciences UKM offers a degree that is recognized by professional bodies in Malaysia. The study period is at least four years or eight semesters. In the first and second years, learning covers basic courses in eye health and vision, eye diseases, vision optics and procedures in optometry clinics. Learning shifts from theory to clinical application of optometry in the following two years. Clinical teaching includes primary optometry clinics, contact lens clinics and specialty clinics namely binocular vision clinics, pediatric clinics and low vision clinics. Students will undertake clinical attachments at the UKM Optometry Clinic, government hospitals, university hospitals and private hospitals. Students also have the opportunity to conduct industrial training at home and abroad. With this, students are prepared to work in various forms of optometry practice such as hospitals, private optometry practices, ophthalmic lens industry and contact lens industry. |
