Description The Doctor of Philosophy program at FSSK encompasses various fields of study supported by six Centers of Study. Candidates can choose to pursue graduate studies to enhance their expertise and career quality in their chosen field of study. FSSK is capable of producing potential and competent researchers in the fields of social sciences and humanities

Entry Requirements A person who wishes to apply for admission to the Doctorate programme shall possess the following qualification:



Masters Degree from the University or any higher learning institution recognised by the Senate; or
Other qualifications equivalent to a Masters Degree or having other qualifications with experience recognised by the Senate; or
A candidate who is currently attending a full time Masters programme under paragraph 6(1) (a) in the University and is certified by the Faculty Graduate Studies Committee/Centre for Graduate Management to convert his status to a Doctorate programme with the approval of Dean of the Faculty/Director of the Institute; or
Bachelor’s Degree with excellent results from the University or any higher learning institution recognised by the Senate; or
Other qualifications recognised by the Senate obtained through Accreditation of Prior Experiential Learning (APEL) or through Recognition of Prior Learning (RPL); and
Fulfills other requirements prescribed by the programme (where applicable).
English Requirement An international candidate is required to fulfill the English Language proficiency requirements as follows:



Obtained TOEFL (550) or IELTS (6) results which fulfill the score or minimum band requirements prescribed by the programme; or
For certain programmes, a candidate is required to sit for an English Proficiency Placement Test (EPPT) and if he fails to achieve the level specified by the programme, the candidate is required to attend and pass the English Proficiency Module (EPM) in a maximum period of two (2) semesters before he is allowed to register for the study programme. The candidate shall register as a Non Graduating Student.


For an international candidate who will be writing his thesis/dissertation in the Malay/Arabic languages, he may be exempted from the requirements stated in paragraph (1)(a), but the candidate shall sit for the English Proficiency Placement Test (EPPT) and if he fails to obtain the level specified by the programme, the candidate is required to attend and pass the English Proficiency Module (EPM).



An international candidate who has the academic qualifications obtained from any local universities recognised by the Senate may be exempted from the requirements stated in paragraph (1)(a), but the candidate shall sit for the English Proficiency Placement Test (EPPT) and if he fails to obtain the level specified by the programme, he is required to attend and pass the English Proficiency Module (EPM).



The Faculty/Institute may grant exemption to the requirements specified in subregulation (1) for the international candidate who is originally from a country where the English Language is the official language or has the academic qualifications obtained from any higher learning institution which uses the English Language as the medium of instruction.
