Description The vision of the Doctor of Philosophy program is to develop academic professionalism and leadership. Through this program, candidates can strengthen their research skills and develop their expertise in a specific field. This program is suitable for all scholars including academics, school teachers, educators and also stakeholders in both the public and private education sectors.

Entry Requirements Eligibility Requirements for Doctoral Programs:

Individuals who wish to apply for a doctoral program must have the following qualifications:

i) A Master's Degree from a University or any institution of higher learning recognized by the Malaysian Qualifications Agency (MQA) and/or

1 with accreditation recognized by a foreign Accreditation Body, or an institution with accreditation as specified by a program; or  

ii) Equivalent Qualifications: Other qualifications equivalent to a Master's Degree or other qualifications with recognized experience by the Senate; or

iii) Current Master's Student: Students who are currently enrolled in a full-time Master's program under sub-regulation 6(a) at the University and are certified by the Faculty/Institute Postgraduate Studies Committee to change their status to a doctoral program with the approval of the Dean/Director; or

iv) Bachelor's Degree with Excellent Results: A Bachelor's Degree with excellent results from the University or any institution of higher learning subject to the provisions of the Faculty/Institute and recognized by the Malaysian Qualifications Agency (MQA) and/or with accreditation recognized by a foreign Accreditation Body; or

v) Qualifications through APPT: Other qualifications recognized by the Senate obtained through Accreditation of Prior Experiential Learning (APPT); or

vi) Program-Specific Requirements: Meet other requirements specified by the program (if applicable); and

vii) MQA Requirements: Meet the requirements of the Malaysian Qualifications Agency (MQA).

English Requirement 1. International candidates are required to meet the following English language proficiency requirements:

a) Obtain a TOEFL (550), IELTS (6) or MUET (4) score that meets the minimum score or band requirements set by the program; or
b) For certain programs, candidates are required to take the English Proficiency Test (EPT) and if they fail to achieve the level specified by the program, the candidate is required to attend and pass the English Proficiency Module (EPM) within a maximum period of two (2) semesters before being allowed to register for the study program. Candidates must register as Non-Graduate Students.  

2. Faculties/Institutes may grant exemptions to the conditions specified in sub-regulation (1) for international candidates who:

a) Will write a thesis/dissertation in Malay/Arabic;
b) Have academic qualifications obtained from any recognized local university by the Senate; or
c) Come from a country where English is the official language or the candidate has academic qualifications obtained from any institution of higher learning that uses English as the medium of instruction.
 
Candidates may be exempted from the conditions stated in sub-regulation (2), but the candidate must take the English Proficiency Test (EPT) and if the candidate fails to obtain the level specified by the program, the candidate is required to attend and pass the English Proficiency Module (EPM).
